Marble Fireplaces: The Ultimate in Elegance and Permanence

If you are looking to make a statement with your fireplace, then marble fireplaces are definitely the way to go. Ever since the days of ancient Greece and Rome, marble has been a symbol of quality, elegance and permanence. Simply paying a visit to the ancient sites of Rome and Athens, where lone marble columns still stand, fills you with awe at the potential and quality of marble, and the same will be true from marble fireplaces.

Fireplaces have been growing rapidly in popularity in US homes and in the more luxurious of these homes, it is definitely marble fireplaces that you will find. These fireplaces make a statement about the home and can transform an entire room into a new league in elegance.

There are many options available if you are considering installing a marble fireplace. Marble fireplaces come in literally hundreds of designs, styles and prices so there should be one that suits your needs no matter what you are looking for. These could be huge roman marble fireplaces complete with columns and rising to the ceiling, or they could be smaller and more intricate Baroque marble fireplaces that are hand carved with exquisite attention to every last detail. Alternatively you could have a more modern or minimal design with straighter lines and more simple decoration. These fireplaces would go well in modern homes and even luxury apartments.

When most people think of marble fireplaces, they think of white marble. However, there are a number of different colors and shades available when it comes to marble fireplaces. You can get black or white marble, you can also get carrera marble which is a slightly brown tinted shade. There is also salmon and travertine marble which have oranges and pinks rippled through the rock. There are also some more rare colors such as tiger marble and sienna marble which all mean that no matter what look and style you are going for, you should be able to find a marble that will fit in with your design scheme.

Real marble fireplaces do not come cheap. Carved, full size fireplaces can range from a couple of thousand dollars to upwards of twenty thousand dollars. There really is no limit to how much you can spend on fireplaces and there are a huge number of options available at very extravagant prices if this is your taste. There are however a number of more modestly priced marble fireplaces and you do not have to be a millionaire to get your hands on one by any means.

When thinking about the price of marble fireplaces, size is an important factor. Many retailers actually make fireplaces from marble to order and can have one made for you in whatever size you request, so if price is an issue, you can always scale down your request.
