Fireplace Stone: Transforming Facelift

If you are tired of the way your fireplace looks but think there is nothing that can be done, perhaps you should consider fireplace stone, which can be used in the form of a mantle transformation or a new front.  Typically, the fireplace is the focal point of a room. In the wintertime, the warm glow of the fire is mesmerizing whereas in the summertime, you could place fresh flowers or candles in the firebox while not in use.

The problem is that some fireplaces are so out of date they do little to enhance anything. Although this can be a frustrating situation, you do have a number of solutions to include fireplace stone. One of the greatest and easiest changes is with the mantle. With so many beautiful styles, you could create something contemporary on which vases or candles are placed, or a more traditional look, creating the perfect display for family photographs.

Some mantles are made from wood, which is nice but not very impressive. By changing this out with the use of fireplace stone, you can create a completely new look. Keep in mind that in addition to using fireplace stone for the mantle, you could also change out the surrounds and hearth for a full makeover. The type of fireplace stone chosen really depends on two things – budget and personal preference. Obviously, you could spend a fortune but for a beautiful new look, it is not necessary.

The nice thing about fireplace stone is the versatility and durability. Because you have so many options of color, texture, and pattern, you can create any look you like from something ultra modern to matching the Victorian era. Some of the most popular types of fireplace stone include limestone, granite, marble, and sandstone, all excellent options. Just within these four choices, you will find a multitude of colors and textures. Then or course, fireplace stone will also vary in weight, which is an important consideration. For instance, heavy stone would require different installation to ensure it holds.

As mentioned, while you could pay good money for fireplace stone, you do not have to. Instead, we recommend you check out the local architectural salvage yards. Many times, magnificent pieces of stone are just lying around waiting for a new home. In fact, some of these pieces will have gorgeous detailing for something unique. In fact, it is common to find stone that has been salvaged from old mansions and historical structures, with prices that are hard to beat. With a little creativity, you could use one type of fireplace stone or a combination of various materials, colors, and textures to produce a one-of-a-kind fireplace, becoming the envy of all your friends and family.
