Corner fireplaces are certainly an idea whose time has come. Due to a continuing growth in the popularity of fireplaces, more and more people living in many different types of homes are deciding that they would like to have a fireplace. However, traditional fireplaces usually require a lot of space. Most fireplaces are flat against the wall and have to be in the middle of a room. This requires a large room and also means that the fireplace has to take the most dominant, and space consuming, area.
However, there are now a number of new designs for corner fireplaces that allow you to place them in smaller rooms, in more diverse areas and in less traditional spaces. Corner fireplaces are a very simple idea that has really proved popular with people who wish to put their fireplace in a smaller room, or in a less prominent position in the room. Corner fireplaces are quite simple. They will usually consist of a traditionally designed firebox and mantel, the only difference being that corner fireplaces are fitted into the corner of the room. This means that you will have to reshape the mantel and the front of the fire place but that is a relatively simple task. You will also have to ensure that the design of the chimney and firebox suits the position in the corner of the room. Because fires work by using convention currents to transfer warm air around the room and suck cool air into the fire, you need to make sure that the position of the fireplace in the corner of the room will not ruin affect the way the heat is transferred. Corner fireplaces however are just one of a number of new designs that have been coming out in recent years. Another design is the bay fireplace. Bay fireplaces consist of fireboxes that are enclosed in gas. They stick out of the wall so that you have two glass walls on the side and a front glass panel. Bay fireplaces really enhance the prominence of the fireplace by drawing it into the room. Another design is the peninsula fire place which is a glass firebox surrounded on three sides by glass. These can be placed almost anywhere and are very popular in certain buildings. Corner fireplaces come in all the styles and designs that you would expect from any other fireplace. You may have to shop around a little more to find the corner fireplace that you like, but there are a great many fireplace dealers out there who have a good selection of corner fireplaces. You can also get them in a full range of materials. If you are thinking of building your own corner fireplace then make sure that you take enough time to plan the design and do not simply use the measurements from a wall fireplace and adapt it for a corner fireplace. You need to be certain that the convection currents will operate properly in the new corner position. |
