Fireplace Grate Heaters: Helping the Environment

Have you ever been told that having an open fire is bad for the environment or that it produces a lot of greenhouse gases. Many of us who like nothing more than relaxing by our open fire on a winter’s evening and enjoying the heat that is produced can sometimes feel a little guilty about the smoke. When the whole world is talking about reducing carbon emissions, here we are burning a little tree in our hearth. Well now you can do something to make your fire not only burn more efficiently and hotter, but also cleaner and greener. All you need is a good, eco friendly fireplace grate heater.

Fireplace grate heaters are clever gadgets that apply a few very simple principles of physics to your fire. If you can increase the air supply to your fire for example, your fire will burn brighter, hotter, and most importantly of all cleaner. There are two ways that a fireplace grate heater can increase the air supply to your fire. First of all, by raising your fire off the ground, air can enter the fire from below. This is a good source of air that flows naturally into the fire and dramatically increases the air flow to your fire.

Another way that fireplace grate heaters improve your fire is that they can actually release air directly into the fire. Some fireplace grate heaters are designed in such a way that they are made from hollow metal pipes. These pipes have little air holes in them. Air sucks into the pipe on the edges and is then released directly into the middle of your fire through the specially placed air holes. Clever ideas like these really make a difference the temperature and efficiency of your fire, so much so that on many occasions your fire will hardly be producing any carbon dioxide at all.

Another clever feature of fireplace grate heaters is that they create efficient convection currents in your home, thus distributing the heat that is created all over your home. This can mean that sometimes having a fire is a more efficient way of heating your home than using any other method. Just knowing this should make you a lot more comfortable about the fact that you are using an open fire to heat your home. Now you know that you have an open fire not only because you enjoy the look, smell, sound and feel of the fire, and of the wood burning naturally before your eyes, but also because it is efficient and environmentally sound.

These are just some of the ways that fireplace grate heaters can improve the performance and efficiency of your fire.
