Fireplace Gas Logs: A Great Alternative to Wood Fireplaces

Fireplace gas logs are great for the many people who now want to have the comfort and effect of an open fire but without all of the inconveniences associated with them, such as seasoning the wood to burn, carrying it into the house, lighting a fire and cleaning up after the fire. Fireplace gas logs are also a good idea for other people who are concerned about air pollution or live in a densely populated area where there are controls on the types of fires that they burn.

For these people, in particular, the fireplace industry has been coming up with ever more innovative and convenient ways to have fires that do not involve all of these inconveniences. Fireplace gas logs are one such product that has come onto the market in recent years and people are beginning to buy fireplace gas logs in ever greater numbers.

There are now many fireplace options for you to choose from including gas log fireplaces, freestanding gas stoves and contained fireplaces that can be mounted to your walls.

It is possible to get gas logs that are not vented and these can be very convenient, requiring less costs to install. With fireplace gas logs, you do not have any need to hook the fireplace up to vents as with other types of fireplaces, and this makes them a lot easier to get started with. However, there are fears that such systems carry the risk of releasing carbon monoxide and other dangerous gases into the home and for this reason, many people are now opting for vented gas log fireplaces that allow all of these gases to escape.

However, opting for vented gas log fireplaces does not mean that you have to have a chimney or traditional fireplace built into your home. There are many ways to vent fireplace gas logs, and some of these will work very well in newer homes that do not have chimneys or fireplaces already installed. You should consult your local gas log retailer and ask them about the venting options they can provide and how much it would cost to vent your home. You may be surprised at how easily and cheaply this can be done. However, it is worth remembering that depending on your home and the design and layout of the building, venting your gas log fireplaces can be quite a significant job involving significant costs.

You can also get fireplace gas logs that fit into your existing chimney. These can then make full use of your existing building features while still saving you the hassles associated with having a fire. These gas log fireplaces operate with the dampers open, and you can choose between using natural gas or propane.

It should also be remembered that fireplace gas logs will not be a solution to a problematic chimney. If you are having trouble with your chimney and cannot use an open log fire with it, then you will not be able to use a vented gas log fire with it either, so choose your gas log fireplace carefully, taking this into consideration.
